New climbing club for St Hild’s School, Hartlepool
St Hild’s school wanted to establish a climbing club that would be used by up to 1000 children – young people from St Hild’s secondary school and children from the primary schools in the locality. The club would utilise an existing climbing wall within the school but in order to achieve this an investment in new climbing equipment was required. A BlueSpark grant funded this equipment (helmets, harnesses etc) plus the necessary instructor training.
St Hild’s reported that 194 children had used the climbing wall in the first few months. It has proved to be a fun and challenging activity for the children with many benefits. Completing a challenging climb has given a tremendous boost in self esteem and social skills have also improved as the children worked together.
